p=.59

Step-by-step explanation:

Using Hardy Weinbeirgh Principle, p can be calculated

p is the frequency of dominant allele in an organism, here plain shells are dominant over striped shells hence dominant allele is homozygous from the question

Dominant homozygous = 136 snails

Recessive allele = 252

Total number of individuals= 136+252

= 388

frequency of individuals with the dominant trait (p^2) = Dominant individual/total individuals

= 130/388

p^2= 0.35

This value 0.35 corresponds to p^2

Since we know that allele is one character of gene

p^2=.35 where underoot x is 0.35

p=
√(x)

p=0.59

Hence the value of p=0.59
