Answer: a. 2x - 10y = 8

Explanation:

Two lines are said to be parallel if they have equal slope.

Consider the equation of the line in slope - intercept form

y = mx + c

where m is the slope and c is the y - intercept

The equation of the line given is

5y = x + 2

To find its gradient , we will make y the subject of the formula , that is

y = (x)/(5) +(2)/(5)

This means that the slope is
(1)/(5), any line that is parallel to this line must have a slope of
(1)/(5).

Checking each of the equations given one after the order.

a. 2x - 10y = 8

10y = 2x - 8

y = 2x/10 - 8/10

y = x/5 - 4/5

slope = 1/5

b. 1-10y = 15 ........ it has no slope

c. 2x + 8y = 9

8y = -2x + 9

y = -2x/8 + 9/8

y = -x/4 + 9/8

slope = -1/4
