Pink: 48 units sq

Blue: 42 units sq

Explanation:

Area of a trapezoid: A=(h)(a+b)/2. To see where h, a, and b are located, see the reference image below. Always remember that a is the shorter end and b is the longer end. Since each grid mark goes by 2, we can use the graph to find the missing variables.

PINK trapezoid:

  • h = 8, a = 4, b = 8
  • A = 8(4 + 8)/2 = 48 units squared

BLUE trapezoid:

  • h = 6, a = 4, b = 10
  • A = 6(4 + 10)/2 = 42 units squared
