For this case we have the following system of equations:

-2x + 7y = 10\\3x + 7y = 2

To subtract the second equation from the first we have

:
-2x + 7y = 10\\- (3x + 7y = 2)

Equivalent system:

-2x + 7y = 10\\-3x-7y = -2

We add the equations:

-2x-3x + 7y-7y = 10-2

Equal signs are added and the same sign is placed.

Different signs are subtracted the sign of the major is placed.

-5x = 8

Thus, when we subtract the second equation from the first we have:

-5x = 8

Answer:

-5x = 8
