IM SO CONFUSED The Garcia family has two cars. Last week, the first car consumed 45 gallons of gas and the second consumed 15 gallons of gas. The two cars drove a combined total of 1,800 miles, and the sum of their fuel efficiencies was 50 miles per gallon. What was the fuel efficiency of each of the cars last week

First car: 15 miles per gallon
Second car: 45 miles per gallon

First car: 35 miles per gallon
Second car: 15 miles per gallon

First car: 35 miles per gallon
Second car: 25 miles per gallon

First car: 45 miles per gallon

Answer:

First car: 35 miles per gallon

Second car: 15 miles per gallon

Explanation:

Let

x ---->the fuel efficiency of the first car in miles per gallon

y ---->the fuel efficiency of the second car in miles per gallon

we know that

The two cars drove a combined total of 1,800 miles, and the sum of their fuel efficiencies was 50 miles per gallon

Remember that to obtain the number of miles multiply the gallons of gas consumed by the fuel efficiency of each car

so

45x+15y=1,800 ----> equation A

x+y=50 -----> equation B

Solve the system by graphing

The solution is the intersection point both graphs

using a graphing tool

The solution is the point (35,15)

see the attached figure

therefore

First car: 35 miles per gallon

Second car: 15 miles per gallon
