At the local baseball diamond, the distance from home base to second base is 100 feet. Determine the distance from home base to first base. If Sammy hits a home run, then what is the distance that she has to run around the bases?

Therefore if Sammy hits a home run she has to run a distance of 565.5 feet around the bases.

Explanation:

i) local baseball field is a diamond.

ii)distance from base to second base is 100 feet

iii) Therefore the distance from home to first base is also 100 feet

iv) distance from base to base
= \sqrt{100^(2) + 100^(2) } = 100√(2) = 100*1.414 = 141.4\\

since there are 4 bases the the perimeter of the diamond baseball field , that is the distance around the bases
4 * 141.4 = 565.5 feet

Therefore if Sammy hits a home run she has to run a distance of 565.5 feet around the bases.
