You did it right. You first distribute your sums into another equation, which you got. Now you're going to take your like terms (1-8) and (12+6) Add or subtract your sums. It should give you -7 and 18. X should be on the side with 18. Divide out the two sums and you should get -2.57, if you're rounding it's -2.6.
