The length of unknown leg is 10 units

Solution:

From the figure attached in question,

Length of one leg of triangle = 24 units

Length of other side (hypotenuse) = 26 units

Length of another leg of triangle = a = ?

Let "a" be the length of unknown leg

Pythagorean theorem, states that the square of the length of the hypotenuse is equal to the sum of squares of the lengths of other two sides of the right-angled triangle

Then, by above definition we get,

24^2+a^2 = 26^2\\\\576 + a^2 = 676\\\\a^2 = 676 - 576\\\\a^2 = 100\\\\Take\ sqaure\ root\ on\ both\ sides\\\\a = √(100)\\\\a = \pm 10\\\\since\ length\ cannot\ be\ negative\ , ignore\ negative\ value\\\\Thus\ solution\ is\ \\\\a= 10

Thus length of unknown leg is 10 units
