Answer: 2/5
Explanation: To find the slope of the line that passes through these points, we will use two methods which are the graphing method and the table method.
To find the slope of the line using the graphing method, we start by plotting our 2 points. So for (3,5) we will go over 3 and up 5 which we label as point A and (8,7) so over 8 and up 7 which we label as point B. Now we can simply graph our line through the 2 points.
Now remember that the slope or m, is equal to the
from point A to point B. To get from point A to point B, we rise 2 units and run 5 units. So the slope or
is simply 2/5.
Next, I will be showing you a different method which is called the table method so let's first make a table for our ordered pairs with the x-values in the left column and the y-values in the right column.
Our first ordered pair is (3,5) so we put a 3 in the x column and a 5 in the y column. Our second ordered pair is (8.7) we put an 8 in the x column and a 7 in the y column. Now remember that the slope is always equal to the rate of change or the change in y over the change in x.
Using the table, we can see that the values of y go from 5 to 7 so the change in y is +2 and the values of x go from 3 to 8 so the change in x is +5.
Therefore, the rate of change or the change in y over the change in x is 2/5 which means that the slope is also equal to 2/5.
I have also attached my work on the whiteboard.
I have done both the graphing method and the table method.
