According to the World Resource Institute, biodiversity is the variety of the world's organisms, including their genetic diversity. In a world of genetically modified (GM) crops, agriculture is greatly reducing the genetic diversity of the plants on Earth. By ignore genetic diversity while we develop GM products, we run several risks that include ALL BUT ONE listed here.

A) reduced biodiversity of important food crops.
B) the extinction of many native or indigenous crops.

Answer:

The correct option is D) increase production while reducing environmental impacts.

Step-by-step explanation:

Although the usage of GM crops has its own benefits, yet there are certain problems related to GM crops which cannot be ignored. One such problem is that by producing GM crops we are reducing the genetic diversity of certain crops. Such cases can be disastrous as there will be no genetic diversity present if disastrous conditions such as a disease occur.

However, GM crops are beneficial as they can increase the production of a crop with enhanced characteristics.
