Monica is giving a speech about the Presidential Medal of Freedom. This is what she has so far:
As students, we are all aware of the great pride we feel when we win an award on Awards Day. Few things are more rewarding than having your hard work recognized, right? Could you imagine being honored for your achievements by the president of the United States? For a select group of people, that dream has come true. The Presidential Medal of Freedom is the highest civilian award anyone can receive. It is awarded to people who have “made especially meritorious contributions to the security or national interests of the United States, to world peace, or to cultural or other significant public or private endeavors.” Meritorious means that these people have done something worthy of reward or praise. The Medal of Freedom is not limited to U.S. citizens. It can also be awarded to those in the military.
