The line segment DE is parallel to line segment BC i.e. DE ║ BC.

So, the line DE will divide AB and AC in the same ratio.

Hence,
(AD)/(DB) = (AE)/(EC)


(8)/(2) = (4)/(CE)

CE = 1 foot.

Therefore, the length of the line segment CE is 1 foot. (Answer)
