Shinto is the indigenous belief of Japanese apart from Buddhism. It is the major religion.

Step-by-step explanation:

This religion does not have any holy scripture or any prophet but the customs and traditions are totally inbuilt in every Japanese household. They believe the natural forces are the incarnations of Gods and Shinto shrines are the place in which Japanese worship. Mostly Shinto priests live in shrines and does rituals. Shinto rose in middle age along with Buddhism.

Shinto means way of gods. Shinto Gods were called Kami and many Buddhists believed that Shinto Gods were the manifestations of Buddha. During Meiji period Shinto was made to be the japan's main religion and efforts were taken to discriminate Shintoism and Buddhism.
