What does "le" and "les" mean in English? I know it means He/She/You, but why does it need to be clarified with "a el", "a ella", or "a usted"? Please explain. Why do you need to start with "A"? Thanks!

For example, you’d use “le” or “les” within a word or separate to use as a pronoun. To clarify pronouns you need to say who you’re talking to, previously, or after “le” or “les”

• Les digo (a ellos / a ellas) que no. (Plural)
I say [to them] no.

• Le (a él/ a ella / a usted) digo que sí. (Singular)
I say [to him / her / you ] yes.
