So, what happens in the beginning is that a Scottish general named, evidently, Macbeth, learns from three disgusting witches that he is apparently to be crowned King of Scotland. But soon Macbeth is so consumed by this dream that he takes action, because of his persistent wife, and actually murders the real King of Scotland, taking the Scottish throne for himself. But being King isn't all that he had hoped for and the satisfaction he thought he would have from the murder of the true King of Scotland instantly turns into regret, guilt and severe paranoia.
