x = -2 and y = -5

Explanation:

Given the system of equation:

3x - 3y = 9 ⇒(1)

5x + 3y = -25 ⇒(2)

From (1) ⇒ 3x - 9 = 3y ⇒(3)

Substitute with the value of (3y) from (3) at (2)

5x + (3x - 9) = -25

5x + 3x - 9 = -25 Combine like terms

8x = -25 + 9 = -16

x = -16/8 = -2

Substitute with the value of x at (3)

3y = 3x - 9

3y = 3 * -2 - 9

3y = -6-9

3y = -15

y = -15/3 = -5

∴ x = -2 and y = -5
