An object is dropped from rest at a height of 350 feet on a planet where the acceleration due to gravity is −60 ft./s.2. Find the average velocity of the object during the first 3 seconds, and then use the Mean Value Theorem to find the time at which the instantaneous velocity equals the average velocity.

Answer:

1.5 seconds

Explanation:

a = -60

v = -60t + c

At t = 0, v = 0

v = -60t

Average velocity:

⅓[integral of v]

⅓[-30t²]

-10(3² - 0²)

= -90 ft/sec

-60t = -90

t = 1.5
