A squirrel family collected 172 nuts to store for the winter. They spread the nuts out evenly among their 6 favorite spots. The squirrels ate the last few nuts that didn't divide evenly . Sadly, a crow stole half the nuts from one of the spots.

How many nuts did the crow steal?

Answer:

The crow ate 14 nuts

Explanation:

First you divided 172 by 6. That is 28 reminder 3. The squirrel ate the 3. The crow ate half of 28. To get half of 28 you divided 28 by 2, which is 14. So the crow ate 14.
