PLEASE HELP ME THIS IS FOR TEST 85 POINTS.

You are lost deep in a forest and haven’t eaten for two days, when you find a patch of toadstools in a clearing between the trees. Your mouth waters as you count all 50 toadstools, but you decide that you should check your guidebook to see if they are safe to eat. The guidebook says that in this forest 60% of the toadstools are poisonous, 80% taste terrible, and 56% are both poisonous AND taste bad. Unfortunately, all of the toadstools kind of look the same, and you are too hungry too even see straight. How many of the toadstools are both non-poisonous AND don’t taste bad? • What is the problem asking? What do we know? Work out the problem showing each step of your process.

Answer:

8

Explanation:

What is the problem asking : It is asking for the number of toadstools that are both non-poisonous and dont taste bad.

=================================

GIVEN : (what we know)

so we have 50 toadstools...

60% are poisonous, 80% taste terrible, 56% are both

==================================

this is the equivalent of a venn diagram without the circles :

only poisonous......................both..........................only taste terrible

60% - 56% = 4% 56% 80% - 56% = 24%

only poisonous + both + only taste bad + non-poisonous/dont taste bad = 100%

4% + 56% + 24% + x = 100%

84% + x = 100%

x = 100% - 84%

x = 16%......so 16% of the toadstools are neither poisonous or dont taste bad.

And we have 50 toadstools....16% of which are non-poisonous and dont taste bad

so 16% of 50 = 0.16(50) = 8 <=== non-poisonous / dont taste bad
