Choose the answer that best describes the form of bias expressed in the following problem.

A reporter attended a play he didn't like. One member of the audience walked out. Which of the following indicates the reporter's bias?

The play had excellent lighting effects and most of the acting was well done.
Part of the audience didn't even stay through the first act, so clearly the play wasn't very exciting.
The actor playing Tom slipped in and out of his accent, which made his character difficult to believe.
At the end of the play, some members of the audience clapped while others booed.

Answer: option 2

When someone has a "biased" statement, this usually means that the situation at hand has not been correctly or fairly judged, and the person making the biased statement has good opinions only to one side of the argument. Biased statements tend to be unfair and poorly judged, causing them to be rude or discourteous to the "other side" of the argument.

Option two is a biased statement because the second half of the sentence is a strongly put opinion. It is not accurate, because the man is a reporter. This statement is biased because he is not suppose to assume it is bad just because half the members supposedly walked out. The reporter is suppose to fairly judge the play based on what he believes to be true based on his facts, not other people's opinions.
