First lets found out how much Tim saved over the 3-month period. To do that, we simply multiply the amount he earned each month ($45.80) times the number of months (3). $45.80 x 3 = $137.40

Now lets found out how much money still needs to be earned. That can be found by subtracting the amount Tim earned ($137.40) from the total amount needed ($214.59). $214.59 - $137.40= $77.19

So now we know that Tom needs to earn $77.19 in order to reach their total of $214.59, but the question also wants to know how much he has to earn each month.

To find this we will take the amount Tom needs to earn in total ($77.19) and divide it by the number of months (3). $77.19 divided by 3 = $25.73
