Joni is solving the equation 3x-1= 6 - x using the graphing capabilities
on her calculator. Here is what the calculator screen displays
when she finds the intersection of the graphs of Y2 = 3x - 1 and Y2 = 6-X.
What is the solution to the equation? How do you know?

Answer:

x = 7/4 = 1.75

Explanation:

Hello - so you don't seem to have shown what the calculator screen displays, however I can assume it will show a graph of the two lines, and their intersection point. The x-co-ordinate of this intersection point is the solution to the equation.

As I can't see the calculator, I will also show you how to work out the solution for x:

3x - 1 = 6 -x

4x -1 = 6

4x = 7

x = 7/4 = 1.75
