Answer: y = -3x + 8

Explanation:

The formula for finding equation of line when two points are given is :

(y-y_(1))/(x-x_(1)) =
(y_(2)-y_(1))/(x_(2)-x_(1))

x_(1) = 1

x_(2) = -2

y_(1) = 5

y_(2) = 14

Substituting the values , we have

(y-5)/(x-1) =
(14-5)/(-2-1)

(y-5)/(x-1) =
(9)/(-3)

(y-5)/(x-1) =
(-3)/(1)

y-5 = -3(x-1)

y -5 = -3x + 3

writing the equation in slope - intercept form , we will make y the subject of the formula:

y = -3x + 3 + 5

y = -3x + 8
