if an isosceles triangle has base angles that are each twice the measure of the smaller angles, what is the degree measure of one of the base angles ?

Explanation:

x = smaller angle and y = base angle

interior angles of a triangle add up to 180

base angles are equal in an isosceles

x + 2y = 180

y = 2x

x + 2(2x) = 180

x + 4x = 180

5x = 180

x = 180/5

x = 36....this is the smaller angle

y = 2x

y = 2(36)

y = 72 <=== each base angle is 72
