The area of parking lot is 5400 square feet

Solution:

The parking lot next to a school is shaped like a trapezoid

The area of trapezoid is given by formula:

Area = (a+b)/(2) * h

Where,

"h" is the height of trapezoid

"a" is the length of longer base and "b" is the length of shorter base

Given that,

The shorter base and the height are both 60 feet long

Therefore,

b = 60 feet

h = 60 feet

The longer base is twice as long as the shorter base

longer base = 2 times shorter base

a = 2 x 60 = 120

a = 120 feet

Substituting the values in area formula, we get

Area = (120+60)/(2) * 60\\\\Area = 180 * 30\\\\Area = 5400

Thus area of parking lot is 5400 square feet
