The theme of Blind is despair, anger, and coping with a hard situation. “I can’t stop thinking really fast, so fast it’s scary. And I can’t sleep. And I can’t stop making up weird refrains —like ‘dark is cool, light is heat’—and repeating them to myself,”. The main idea of Phineas Gage is how a man survived an unbelievable accident. "He can’t believe that this man is still alive. His skull is cracked open, as if something has popped out from the inside.". When Emma's accident and condition is described, it's vague and focuses on the effect of the situation. When Phineas's incident is described, it's in so much detail that the title of the selection even has the word "gruesome" in it. Blind is compelling because it puts you in Emma's place and helps you imagine what it is like to be blind and have so much anger inside of you. Phineas Gage is compelling because it describes the incident in such detail, and lays out the steps leading up to before and after the accident.

The story of Phineas Gage is all about the brain science. Phineas was suffering from a great injury. The doctors were shocked how Phineas could survive that injury.

They tried to study and determine the reason because of which Phineas was able to survive even after getting a big injury on his head. Phineas got a tamping iron shot up through his head and it also hit a part of his brain making it a big injury. The story also focused on the personality of Phineas.
