A revolutionary war for the need of independence split the American colonists into patriots and loyalists.

Step-by-step explanation:

Patriots were people who wanted the American colonies to gain their independence from Britain. They wanted their own country called the United States. Patriots such as Thomas Jefferson who is fore runner of the declaration of independence and John Adams were famous patriots. Perhaps the most famous patriot at the time was George Washington who led the Continental Army and later became the first President of the United States.

American colonists felt that they were not being given representation in the parliamentary and not given an ear to listen to their grievances. Colonists were continuously oppressed by encountering heavy taxes which were not affordable for them. Hence the colonists split into two, one is patriots who wanted freedom and secession form the British rule and the other group is loyalists who were loyal to the English crown.
