Answer:

total number of sheep in the farm = 28
* 6 = 168

Explanation:

i) let the number of all sheep in the farm be x.

ii) 28 sheep were tagged.

iii) 18 sheep were observed and 3 were found to be tagged.

Therefore the ratio of tagged to sheep to the number of sheep observed

=
(3)/(18) = (1)/(6)

iv) therefore we can apply the ratio found in iii) as follows

\frac{number\hspace{0.15cm}of\hspace{0.15cm}sheep\hspace{0.15cm}tagged}{total\hspace{0.15cm}number\hspace{0.15cm} of\hspace{0.15cm} sheep} = \frac{28}{total\hspace{0.15cm}number\hspace{0.15cm} of\hspace{0.15cm} sheep} = (1)/(6)

total number of sheep in the farm = 28
* 6 = 168
