Madison worked for 7.5 hours before school and 15 hours after school

Solution:

Given that, Madison works a job before and after school

Amount earned before school = $ 11.50 per hour

Amount earned after school = $ 11.75 per hour

Amount earned last week = $ 262.50

Let "x" be the hours worked before school

Given that, she worked twice as many hours after school

So, number of hours worked after school = 2x

Therefore, we can say,

Total amount earned = (Amount earned before school)(number of hours) + (Amount earned after school)(number of hours)

262.50 = 11.50(x) + 11.75(2x)\\\\262.50 = 11.50x + 23.5x\\\\35x = 262.50\\\\x = 7.5

Number of hours worked after school = 2x = 2(7.5) = 15

Thus Madison worked for 7.5 hours before school and 15 hours after school
