Bring the variables to the left side of the equation:
x + 2y = 10
-(x/2) + y = 3

Multiply the second equation by 2 to get rid of the fraction:
x + 2y = 10
-x + 2y = 6

Eliminate the y’s to isolate x via elimination:
x + 2y = 10
- -x + 2y = 6
———————
2x = 4
x = 2

Plug in the value for x into the first equation:
2y + 2 = 10
2y = 8
y = 4

x = 2
y = 4
