A 16-year-old child is admitted to the hospital for treatment after a motor vehicle crash. Review of the child's record reveals that the child is an emancipated minor. What does this mean?

Answer: When you call a child an "emancipated minor", it means that that the child has been freed from control by his/her parents or guardians, and the parents/guardians are freed from any and all responsibility toward the child before the child attains majority.

Children before this age are considered legally incompetent and therefore should be looked after. Emancipation overrides this and gives the child the legal right to make his/her decisions.

I hope you find this helpful Bradley
