A condensation reaction can be described as a type of reaction in which two or more smaller molecules join to form a larger molecule. Often, a small molecule such as a water molecule is also released during this reaction. There are a number of condensation reactions which occur in an animal cell. Some of these include:

• The formation of disaccharides and polysaccharides from monosaccharide. A water molecule is also released during this process,
• The formation of a lipid molecule by the joining of glycerol and three fatty acids.
• The formation of proteins through amino acids.
