Mary is twice as old as Feeder. In 8 years their ages will total 70. How old is each now?

2x+x+16 = 70 is the equation for their combined ages in 8 years. combine like terms to get 3x+16=70. subtract sixteen from both sides to get 3x=54. divide by three to get x = 18. so feeder is 18, and mary is 36.
