Why did the Green Revolution begin in Mexico in the 1940s? What were the different roles played by government and private foundations in bringing these new advancements to Mexico?

The Green Revolution begin in Mexico in the 1940s because:

The Green Revolution is a revolution which aims at implementing modern methods in areas related to cultivation and agriculture. Green revolution started in Mexico after Norman Borlaug started to find out new methods of cultivation in areas relating to high yielding varieties of wheat. He ended up winning the Nobel Prize for that too

The following were the different roles played by government and private foundations in bringing these new advancements to Mexico:

The government of Mexico supported the green revolution but it did not last long due to tensions with the United States of America. The Rockefeller Foundation played a pivotal role in setting up of the Mexican Agricultural Program in 1943. This program was later renamed to International Maize and Wheat Improvement Centre, also known as CIMMYT.
