For every hour t, Bus 1 will travel f(t) = 64t miles, while Bus 2 traveled a total of 124 miles after the first 2 hours and 186 miles after another hour. At 6 hours, which statement is true? A) Bus 2 will travel less than Bus 1. B) Bus 1 will travel farther than Bus 2. C) Bus 2 will travel farther than Bus 1. D) Bus 1 and Bus 2 will travel the same distance.

Answer:

A) Bus 2 will travel less than Bus 1 and

B) Bus 1 will travel farther than Bus 2.

Explanation:

For every hour t, Bus 1 will travel f(t) = 64t miles, while Bus 2 traveled a total of 124 miles after the first 2 hours and 186 miles after another hour.

So, bus 1 will travel a total distance after t = 6 hours by (64 × 6) = 384 miles.

Now, bus 2 is also moving at a uniform rate of
(124)/(2) = 62 mph and it travels a total of 186 miles in 3 hours.

So, bus 2 will travel a total distance after t = 6 hours by (62 × 6) = 372 miles.

Therefore, A) Bus 2 will travel less than Bus 1 and B) Bus 1 will travel farther than Bus 2. (Answer)
