Brutus, one of the main characters engaged in the murder plot, and a former friend of Caesar's, asks Lucius to play an instrument while he rests, because he has trouble sleeping. Brutus had a bad day - he had an argument with Cassius and learned that his wife has died. Lucius, however, is very tired and thus falls asleep during the song. Brutus allows him to sleep, and decides to read a book to relax.
