(1)
1(7)/(8) pounds of soil (2)
(35)/(2) (3) 33

Solution:

(1) Number of pots = 5

Quantity of soil each pot can hold =
(3)/(8) pounds

Quantity of soil need to fill all the pots =
5* (3)/(8)

=
(15)/(8) pounds

=
1(7)/(8) pounds

Therefore,
1(7)/(8) pounds of soil need to fill all of the pots.

(2) To find the product of
4(2)/(3) and
3(3)/(4).

Let us first convert the mixed fraction into improper fraction.

4(2)/(3)*3(3)/(4)=((4*3)+2)/(3)*((3*4)+3)/(4)

=(14)/(3)*(15)/(4)

=(210)/(12)

This can be simplified. Divide both numerator and denominator by 6.

=(35)/(2)

4(2)/(3)*3(3)/(4)=(35)/(2)

(3) To evaluate the expression 12x + 6 for
x=2(1)/(4).

Let us first convert the mixed fraction into improper fraction.

x=((2*4)+1)/(4)=(9)/(4)

12x+6=12((9)/(4))+6

=((108)/(4))+6

=27+6

12x + 6 = 33
