2x + 5y = 4
3x - 5y = 6

Answer:

x = 2, y = 0

Explanation:

Given the 2 equations

2x + 5y = 4 → (1)

3x - 5y = 6 → (2)

Adding the 2 equations term by term will eliminate the term in y

(2x + 3x) + (5y - 5y) = (4 + 6), that is

5x = 10 ( divide both sides by 5 )

x = 2

Substitute x = 2 into either of the 2 equations and solve for y

Substituting in (1)

2(2) + 5y = 4

4 + 5y = 4 ( subtract 4 from both sides )

5y = 0 ⇒ y = 0
