What causes the outer layer of star to expand?​

Answer/Explanation:

Stars spend the majority of their lifespan medling hydrogen nuclei together to form helium. When the hydrogen that in the core of the star begins to run out, the star will start using hydrogen away from its core and this is what causes the star's outer layer to expand and slowly cool down.
