Answer:

  • The term "pharmacognosy" was used for the first time by the German physician Johann Adam Schmidt (1759-1809) in his published book Lehrbuch der Materia Medica in 1811, and by Anotheus Seydler in 1815, in his Analecta Pharmacognostica.
  • It includes a systematic study of crude drugs from nature. The study of pharmacognosy includes the history, distribution, cultivation, collection, process, and preservation. It additionally includes the study of physical, chemical, and structural characteristics and also the benefits of crude drug.
  • Pharmacognosy involves the identification, physicochemical characterization, cultivation, extraction, preparation, quality control, and biological assessment of drugs. A plant leaf, flower, root, animal or plant extract may be used to isolate the bioactive chemical
