Answer:

Solving equations you always want to get the variable by itself

First distribute 1/2 to 8x-4 ( divide 8x-4 in half to get 4x-2)

Your equation is now 4x-2-3x+20=3x+38

Lets combine like terms on both sides

4x-3x-2+20=3x+38 (4x-3x=x) (-2+20=18)

x+18=3x+38 now lets get x on one side

x=3x+20 (minus 18 from each side, 18-18=0, 38-18=20)

-2x=20 (minus 3x from each side, 3x-3x=0, x-3x=-2x)

x=-10 (divide each side by -2, -2/-2=1, 20/-2=-10)

Your final answer is x=-10

Hope this helps ;)
