Explanation:
Make sure that all the fractions have a common denominator (bottom)
Convert the 1 1/3 into a mixed # 4/3
What does 3, 4, and 6 all have in common? Use a factor tree.
24 and 12 are two examples. In this case, I am going to use 12.
So now I have 5/6 times what to get to denominator 12 and same for 3/4
For 5/6 I got 10/12
For 3/4 I got 9/12
Subtract 10/12 - 9/12 now because they have a common denominator
1/12
1/12x = 4/3
Convert 4/3 --> 16/12
You want to isolate x so in order to do so, get rid of the bottom denominator
x = __
