a) equation: y = mx + b y = - x -5

b) equation: y = x - 5

slope(m) = - 1

a) parallel line: slope (m') = -1

pass (3 , - 8) y intercept (b) = y - mx = -8 - (-1)x3 = -8 + 3 = -5

equation: y = mx + b y = - x -5

b) perpendicular line slope = - 1/m = 1

pass (4 , - 1) y intercept (b) = - 1 - (1 x 4) = - 5

equation: y = x - 5
