3x - 3y = 3

- 3x - y = 5

Minus (2) from (1) to factor out x

- 4y = - 2

After minus

4y = 2

Cancel out the minus

Bring 4 to the other side and divide 2 by 4

To find x :

- x + ( 1/2) = 1

substitute y with its value

- x = 1/2
