Can someone help me with this please? I need this > Analyze the structure in the diagram and explain how living systems use this structure. Be sure to include the following points in your answer: 1) a description of the important properties of the structure in the diagram. 2) an explanation of how the structure functions in the cell. 3) an explanation of how the structure helps regulate materials in living systems. 4) a prediction of how water will move from one side of the structure to the other side.

Answer:

1) The structure shown is of a cell membrane. A cell membrane is made up of phospholipid bilayer. The head of the bilayer are made up of phophates and glycerol which are facing outward. The tail is made up of fatty acids which is enclosed in the layers. The cell membrane also comprises of cholesterol and membrane proteins.

2) The cell membrane is semi-permeable. It allows the entry of specific molecules into the cell and exit specific molecules only.

3) The cell membrane helps to regulate the specific entry of molecules into a cell. By doing so, it acts like a filter for the cell and allows the entry of those materials which are required by the cell.

4) Water moves through the cell membrane by osmosis. Osmosis can be described as the movement of water molecules from an area of higher concentration to an area of lower concentration along the concentration gradient.
