Answer:

Lyddie is a novel written by Katherine Paterson. It tells a heartbreaking story about a 13-year-old girl living in 1840`s in Vermont, later in Massachusetts. Her family is poor, father abandoned the family, their cabin is barely a shelter, Lyddie and her younger brother have to work to get some money. Her mother and younger siblings left to some relatives. Their farm is rented. One day when Lyddie pays a visit to her old farm, she finds Ezekial Abernathy, a slave running to freedom and hiding there. She gives him all the money she has to help him. Story continues with more gruesome details. Lyddie found a job in a factory, she was exploited and a victim of sexual harassment. Her mother and younger sister died, Charles and the other sister went to a foster family. Lyddie decided not to give up, to educate herself and try to live a better life.
