The shape has an area of 37m

First you want to draw a line between the two figures to where the bottom figure has a line connecting the two 3m sides. Once you have that the top shape and bottom shape are both rectangles do it will be l*w=a.

Go to the top shape and look at the length and width (5 and 3) you multiply 5 by 3 and get 15m. The top shape is 15m

Next you want to do the bottom shape. This one is a little trickier. The top side of the top shape is needed for this. Since the top shape is a rectangle then the line you drew between the two 3m sides is now 5m long. Now you add those values together to get 3+3+5. That will equal to 11. Now that you found your length you multiply you length by the width that is 2 on the bottom shape and will leave you with 2*11 which will equal 22

Now that you found the area of both shapes you simply add them together and you’ll get the area of the whole shape. 15+22=37

Answer:

37 m^2.

Explanation:

This is the sum of 2 rectangles:

= (3 * 5) + 2*(3 + 5 + 3)

= 15 + 2*11

= 15 + 22

= 37 m^2
