Every 2 centimeters on a floor plan represents 1 meter of the house. The dining room is 8 cm by 14 cm on the floor plan, and the bedroom is 7 cm by 12 cm on the floor plan. If installing tile cost $76 per square meter and installing carpet cost $52 per square meter, how much would it cost to install tile in the dining room and install carpet in the bedroom

It costs $ 2128 to install tile for dining room

It costs $ 1092 to install carpet in bedroom

Solution:

Given that,

Every 2 centimeters on a floor plan represents 1 meter of the house

1 meter = 2 centimeter

The dining room is 8 cm by 14 cm on the floor plan

Length = 8 cm

Width = 14 cm

The room is usually of shape rectangle

The area of rectangle is:

area = length x width

area = 8 * 14 = 112

Thus area of dining room is 112
cm^2

Convert centimeter to meter

From given statement in question,

1 meter = 2 centimeter

1 \text{ centimeter } = (1)/(2) \text{ meter }

112 cm^2 = (1)/(2) * (1)/(2) * 112 m^2\\\\112cm^2=28m^2

Thus area of dining room is 28 square meter

How much would it cost to install tile in the dining room ?

Installing tile cost $76 per square meter

cost per square meter = $ 76

Then cost of installing tile for 28 square meter is given as:

cost for
28m^2 = 76 x 28 = 2128

Thus it costs $ 2128 to install tile for dining room

The bedroom is 7 cm by 12 cm on the floor plan

Area of bedroom is given as:

Area = 7 * 12 = 84

Thus area of bedroom is 84
cm^2

Convert centimeter to meter:

84 cm^2 = (1)/(2) * (1)/(2) * 84 m^2 = 21m^2

Thus area of bedroom is
21m^2

How much would it cost to install carpet in the bedroom ?

Installing carpet cost $52 per square meter

cost of carpet per square meter = $ 52

cost of 21 square meter = 52 x 21 = 1092

Thus it costs $ 1092 to install carpet in bedroom
