• When the fire has a visibly small span but it is difficult to approach it owing to the amount of heat being emitted by the fire.

• If the smoke is spreading and is moving towards the ceiling leaving the lower part of the room less smokey and mostly visible.
• If the fire is small and going in to extinguish the fire demands a piece of special equipment which cannot be carried in along with a large fire extinguisher.
