An item you want is regularly $56.23, but is on sale for $40 this week. If the tax is 5%, but the shipping is the same for both, how much will you save by ordering the item on sale?

Answer:

Amount saved = $17.04

Explanation:

An item you want is regularly $56.23, but is on sale for $40 this week

Original amount is $56.23

tax is 5%, tax amount is
(5)/(100) \cdot 56.23=2.8115

Original cost with tax is
56.23+2.8115=59.04

Sale amount is $40

tax is 5%, tax amount is
(5)/(100) \cdot 40=2

sale cost with tax is
40+2=42

Amount you save = original cost- sale cost

59.04-42=17.04
